Lag screws are generally used in pre-drilled holes in wood. The pilot hole is typically pre-drilled in the wood before inserting the bolt, and must be sized to allow the threads to embed tightly and securely in the wood. When used with a lag shield, lag screws can be used in masonry applications.
Hex Lag Screws, or Lag Bolts, are available in steel with a zinc or galvanized finish; and in 18-8 stainless.
